Patriotic Color Schemes
Of course, red, white, and blue, are the hallmark colors of the Fourth of July and there is nothing more classic and timeless than the crimson red, navy blue, and crisp white! There is definitely room to mix it up and be creative though. Consider using other, lighter shades of blue for a more modern look. Or, my personal favorite, experiment with mixing and matching different red, white, and blue patterns to add interest while still sticking to the classic colors. Not all of your Fourth of July decor has to incorporate stars or stripes to still feel patriotic and symbolic of the holiday.
Fun fact: the official colors of the United States Flag are Old Glory Red: #B31942 · White: #FFFFFF · Old Glory Blue: #0A3161
Festive Decorating Tips
- Not all decor has to be Fourth of July exclusive. What do I mean by this? Not all of your decorations have to be overly-patriotic or only usable for the Fourth of July. For example, if you’re like me, you probably have lots of blue and white or chinoiserie dishes. These are perfect for an outdoor tablescape that still captures the feeling of the Fourth, but in more of a subtle, classy way.
- Use flags tastefully. Sometimes Fourth of July decor can feel a little flag heavy. You’ll absolutely want to incorporate a flag as a focal point, but sometimes mini flags everywhere is not the best way to go. I personally love one large flag as a backdrop or centerpiece, accessorizing with bunting, and then let the rest of the decor be more subtle.
- Forget paper dinnerware, melamine is the way to go! Melamine dishes are still super durable and safe for outdoor use because they are plastic, but they look and feel more put together. Plus, because they are heavier, they won’t blow away if your Fourth of July happens to be a little breezy.

All of these outdoor decor ideas are so cute! My favorites are the melamine plates, wreath sash, and scalloped rug – all of which you can use beyond the Fourth of July! Keep scrolling for links to all items pictured below.
