Who says decorating should be limited to the living areas of your hme? Most of us spend up to hours a day in the kitchen, and it is becoming more and more popular to decorate and style your kitchen just like you would any room in your home! Your kitchen is the perfect place for beauty and functionality to intersect, and adding artwork to your kitchen is an easy way to add personality! Let’s spice up your kitchen with some artwork!
In this exciting blog post, I’ll let you in on a little secret: art is the perfect ingredient to add overall style as well as subtle seasonal and holiday touches to your kitchen. Popular home decor hotspots like Target, At Home, Kirklands, Hobby Lobby, and even Etsy are great places to find art for you kitchen. Stick around, because I’ve curated a collection of the best (and super affordable) art finds for your kitchen, and I can’t wait to share them with you later in this post. Let’s dive in!
Choosing Your Kitchen Wall Art

First and foremost, you need to narrow your search and get an idea of what kind of art you want to put in your kitchen. If you’re like me and have a more timeless coastal style, then landscapes, still lifes, and even vintage portraits will be the perfect fit!
Vintage art can be a good option, but I am also weary of the extra wear and tear that may come to art in your kitchen. From steam to grease to messy hands, I shy away from putting investment pieces in my kitchen. Instead, you should look for pieces you are OK with getting a little dirty, and who said a little wear and tear can’t add charm? The best kitchen art, in my opinion, is less than $50. If it gets dirty, that is totally fine, at least it is not a family heirloom, right?!
Next, shy away from art that is framed in glass. Again, when you’re cooking and moving around in the kitchen, especially when kiddos are helping, accidents can happen. The last thing you want is glass near food! Look for pre-framed art that does not have glass to avoid any dangerous situations.
Arranging and Hanging Kitchen Artwork

At this point you likely have an idea of the style of art you’d like to add to your kitchen as well as a price range that you are comfortable with, keeping in mind that your kitchen sees a lot of use! Now you need to think about the where you be placing and arranging the art.
If you’re familiar with the design term vignette, this will help you when thinking about arranging your kitchen art. In the world of design, a vignette essentially refers to an arrangement. It’s when you curate a scene in order to tell a story or set a certain mood. The photo above is a great example of several vignettes or interesting groupings of objects that tell a story or make you feel a certain way!
In the context of your own kitchen, think of areas that might feel a little empty or where you could add art without it detracting from the functionality of the space. Here’s a few ideas for arranging your art:
- In an empty corner of your countertop
- Leaning against your backsplash
- Above your range or stove
- In a windowsill
- In a hutch or china cabinet
- On an easel or cookbook stand
Be sure to group other objects with your artwork to create your own vignette. Fresh flowers, candles, cookbooks, glassware, salt cellars, fruit bowls, and glassware are all great options! Another tip for styling a vignette is to always think in triangles…I’ll show you what I mean in the photo below, but you want to group your objects so there are anchor points and a high point. This keeps things visually interesting and balanced.

If you opt to hang your art rather than put it on a stand or simply lean it against a shelf or backsplash, I recommend using Command hooks or strips. I would never recommend drilling into your backsplash to hang a piece of art, and command hooks or strips are a great way to protect your kitchen while still safely hanging your art.
Kitchen Art Prints
As promised, here is a roundup of great options for kitchen artwork that are both beautiful and affordable!
Other great places to find artwork are:
- Etsy – if you want to use your own frames, you can purchase digital download prints for a great price and print them yourself. I like to use Costco photo printing!
- The Fox Group – if you’re comfortable with higher end pieces, this design firm has a darling boutique with amazing original paintings
- Antique and thrift stores
I hope you enjoyed this post all about art in the kitchen!
