There’s nothing better than a cool, crisp, and sweet honey lime fruit salad on a hot summer day! This is one of my favorite summer salads to make as it is easy to throw together and you can use a new combination of fruit every time. In this post you will learn what the best fruit to use is as well as the foolproof recipe for the honey lime dressing.
This post is all about how to make the best honey lime fruit salad!
What Fruit to Use
What I love so much about this salad is that you can use almost any combination of fruit! I generally go for what is in season or the best options that my local grocery store has. This time around I used green grapes, raspberries, blackberries, and pineapple. I generally recommend using a combination of berries with at least one tropical fruit like pineapple or mango. It its best to use a combination of 3-4 different types of fruits. Here are the fruits whose flavor and texture combination work the best:
- Peach
- Strawberry
- Raspberry
- Blackberry
- Blueberry
- Green grape
- Pineapple
- Kiwi
- Mango
You can also use watermelon, however I typically avoid it as it is really juicy and can feel soggy if you plan to have leftovers! Plus the lime juice in the dressing brings out the juice of the other fruit and it all becomes part of the dressing, so any extra or excessive juice would be too much!
Honey Lime Dressing
This honey lime dressing is the best part of the salad by far! It is perfectly sweet and refreshing and is so easy to make! If you are making a big batch that you plan to eat over several days, I would keep the dressing and mixed fruit separate until you are ready to serve so it doesn’t become too soggy between servings!
Optional Honey Lime Fruit Salad Add-Ins
Although the simplicity of this fruit salad is why I love it so much, you can also add in a couple of different things to mix it up. The two add-ins that work particularly well with the honey and lime is mint or poppy seeds. The mint make it extra aromatic and refreshing, and poppy seeds add a nice texture.
Honey Lime Fruit Salad Recipe
Thankfully, this recipe is so easy! It is perfect for a summer afternoon, pool party, or picnic. Plus you can always make it a few hours ahead of time and it is best served cold right out of the refrigerator!
- You will want to start by cutting any large fruits into bite sized pieces. Leave small berries like raspberries and blueberries whole; but cut any pineapple, mango, kiwi, strawberry, or grapes into bite sized pieces.
- Next mix the honey lime dressing. A couple of tips:
- To get the most juice out of your limes (and fresh lime juice is preferred to bottled), put them in the microwave for 7-10 seconds and then use your palm on the top of the lime and roll the lime back and forth on your countertop several times. This will help break up the membrane inside of the lime and release the most juice. Then cut the limes in half and use a spoon or juicer to work the juice out of the lime.
- A tip for evenly incorporating the honey and the lime juice is to also slightly warm up the honey. Put it in the microwave for 5-10 second spurts until it is more runny. Use a wisk or a fork to vigorously mix the honey and lime juice until evenly incorporated.
- Now gently pour the dressing over the fruit and use a silicone spatula to gently fold the fruit and dressing together. You don’t want to smash any of the fruit, particularly the berries.
- OPTIONAL: Finally, if you choose, add in your chopped mint or poppy seeds and gently fold the fruit salad together.
- ENJOY! This is best served right out of the refrigerator and be sure to tightly cover when you are storing.
