This post is all about simple Christmas tree ideas!
Decorating the Christmas tree is one of the best things about the Christmas season! It is the perfect excuse to make a yummy treat, turn on a Christmas movie, and pull out all of your favorite decorations! I especially love shopping for tree ornaments and planning out my theme for the year. However, deciding on a new theme each year can feel overwhelming and expensive, especially with sooo many different options out there.
I put together three different looks that are all affordable and super easy to replicate on your own tree. The first idea is more modern and minimalist and the warm golden tones are perfect for a cozy, farmhouse Christmas theme. The second look is an all-white monochromatic theme that you can truly make your own with any decorations in the same color! The third and final look is more elegant and chic and is perfect for someone looking for a more feminine Christmas tree.
If you’re looking for Christmas tree ideas for small spaces, all three of my ideas also could be easily adapted to a smaller tree. If your tree is in a smaller space, be sure not to overcrowd the tree with too many ornaments or else your tree will be too visually distracting.
Let’s get into the ideas!
Idea #1: Minimalist Christmas Tree Decor
Christmas Tree Ornaments Tree Topper Cream Ribbon Gold Ribbon Garland Tree Collar
If you are looking for minimalist Christmas ideas, look no further! I love this simple, neutral look that I pulled together for your Christmas tree! It is cozy, warm, and has several natural textures that will warm up your space!
I especially love using ribbon on Christmas trees, because it is a super affordable way to add movement and texture to your tree. The velvet ribbon options I linked above are the perfect soft additions! I recommend using a couple of different types of ribbon in different width. You can either tie the ribbon in bows on the ends of the branches or do simple knots without the bow if the bows feel too whimsical. As a bonus, if you have little ones, the ribbon is unbreakable and you don’t have to worry about glass around your tree.
For the Christmas tree ornaments, I would get two packages of the ornaments I linked above. As a pro tip, be sure to hang ornaments in the tree, not all on the edges. This will make your tree feel more lush and expensive.
Idea #2: White Decorations for Christmas Tree
Christmas Tree Ornaments Ribbon Tree Skirt Berry Picks Feather Picks Tree Topper
This all-white Christmas decoration idea screams magical winter wonderland! The flocked Christmas tree, the frosted Christmas ornaments, and the ribbon and tree picks will give your tree so much dimension and movement! Imagine it glowing at night! Don’t be fooled, monochromatic Christmas trees do not have to be boring, and if you feel like you might be lacking an eye for design, going with a one-color look can simplify your decoration search so much!
To decorate this tree and properly layer the ornaments, I would start with ribbon as the garland first, then add the frosted ornaments, then finish it off with the tree picks and the tree topper!
You can also adapt this look to any color, but I particularly love white!
Idea #3: Elegant Christmas Tree Decor
Christmas Tree Blue Ornaments Silver Ornaments Blue Ribbon Tree Collar Tree Topper
There is nothing more elegant than blue and silver, and this elegant Christmas tree theme is timeless and feminine. I wanted this simple Christmas tree idea to feel chic and effortless, and I would personally use a more lifelike tree, if not a real tree.
The mercury glass and toile ornaments have a vintage, french feel, and I would be careful to not overcrowd the tree with ornaments and instead keep it simple and sweet! This tree idea is also perfect for a home office or a bedroom if the blue feels to girly!
My Top Five Christmas Tree Decorating Tips:
- You might have noticed that for two of the trees I opted for tree collars instead of tree skirts. I personally feel like tree collars are more neat and create a more polished look than a traditional tree skirt does.
- Before you add any decorations to your tree, make sure to fluff the branches of your tree. I promise this will make a night and day difference to how luxurious your tree looks. If you have an artificial tree, make sure to pull the branches apart and pull each stem of the branches in different directions to mimic the look of a live tree.
- Decorate your tree in layers! I always start with the garland or ribbon I am using and tuck it carefully between the branches. Then I add in the ornaments and finish with picks. If you forget to layer IN your decorations, the tree will feel flat and one-dimensional.
- Mix inexpensive and expensive ornaments. I personally like to get filler ornaments that are more affordable, and then adding a few expensive, more boutique decorations to make the tree feel more unique and custom!
- Create a grid with your ornaments! Have you ever decorated your tree, took a step back, and realized the tree look lopsided? You might have accidentally clustered all your ornaments together. To avoid this, I like to mentally divide my tree into a grid or zones and make sure each zone has a few of each decorations so that my tree feels even!
I hope you enjoyed my simple Christmas tree ideas, and be sure to implement my five tips when you decorate your tree this year! Cheers!
